An evening where tradition, storytelling, and fine whiskey come together at McCusker’s Pub in the Ulster Folk Museum
Throughout the evening, we’ll be serving three courses of Ulster-Scots delights. Each will feature a whiskey to taste, a story to listen to and a tasty canapé created by chef Erin Bunting of the Edible Flower. The whiskeys have been curated by our in-house bar manager, and our storyteller for the evening will be Colin Urwin.

WHY? Historians believe that Irish monks introduced whiskey distillation to Islay in the 14th Century, much before the first official records of whiskey distillation elsewhere in Scotland.
Course 1: Scallion potato cake, smoked salmon, roast beetroot & horseradish cream
WHY? Campbelltown is geographically the closest region of Scotland to Ulster, with less than 13 miles between the Mull of Kintyre in Campbelltown and Torr Head in Ulster.
Course 2: Spiced neep & tatties with blue cheese (Young Buck) and haggis crumb
WHY? A whiskey from Dumfries, Robert Burns' place of death, dedicated to the important Scots Language Figure.
Course 3: Autumnal cranachan with caramelised apple, whiskey cream, hazelnuts & oats
Colin Urwin is a folk singer, songwriter, oral storyteller, recording artist, and author of several folktale collections.
He is Seanchaí to Randal, 15th Earl of Antrim, Chief of the Antrim McDonnells at Glenarm Castle, and resident Storyteller at The Courthouse, Bushmills – a creative arts hub in Northern Ireland. He has written and performed several stage shows, most notably Celtic Heart which is currently running as a show-in-residence at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. He regularly appears at local storytelling and music events in schools, libraries, and for a wide range of community groups. He also performs at international storytelling and literary festivals and conferences all over the world.
Erin is a chef, recipe developer, food stylist and edible flower enthusiast. More than a decade ago, she founded The Edible Flower, a supper club and food business celebrating delicious, seasonal and surprising food.
Today, Erin develops menus and recipes and leads a kitchen team delivering supper clubs and workshops. Her cooking is fresh, unpretentious and vegetable-focused, rooted in a love of Ireland’s beautiful produce and inspired by what’s in season.
This event is part of Ards and North Down Borough Council’s Leid and Lairn Festival, a celebration of the rich language, culture and history of the Ulster-Scots tradition.
