First opened in 1964, the Ulster Folk Museum is a remarkable living museum and environmental resource situated at Cultra, three miles east of Belfast.
The museum is home to a rich collection of heritage buildings and objects, which it uses to actively preserve and demonstrate traditions, stories and skills passed down through many generations of people in Ulster. The museum offers a place to think about how we, as the current generation, are still adapting to change and how we might find meaning and inspiration from the many generations before us to help build a cleaner, greener and prosperous future.
Building Closures Notice
Our exhibits are a collection of traditionally built and replica buildings. Sometimes, we have to close them to the public for ongoing maintenance and repair work, to ensure preventative maintenance and conservation so they are appropriately cared for. Currently, the following buildings are closed for such work. We're sorry for any disappointment but hope you understand:
- Ballyveaghmore Farm (map location 49, rural 'Hill' area)
- Meenagarragh Cottier's House (map location 47, rural 'Wood' area)
- Drumnahunshin Farm House (map location 51, rural 'Field' area)
- Ballydown National School (map location 53, rural 'Field' area)
