In Ulster in the early 1900s, storytelling helped to pass on knowledge of people and places, and played a crucial part in keeping customs alive from generation to generation. In this workshop, your class has the chance to experience what it was like to gather round the hearth to share stories and food, and get a sense of how this tradition built a strong sense of community and connection in the past.

Join a member of our team beside a real turf fire in one of our authentic buildings for some sensory stories in this cosy session designed for young children, where we aim to create a feeling of togetherness and belonging. Your class will have the opportunity to discuss and express their responses to characters, stories and imaginary situations. They will participate in our story by creating fun sound effects, and enjoy handling objects that help bring the stories to life. After your story session, the class can visit another house to sample some homemade soda bread, prepared to a traditional recipe and cooked over an open fire.
